Forum 2007 (Nordic & Baltic) 28.8.2007, Helsinki region, Finland
>> Participants ParticipantsThe forum was participated by invited decision-makers and opinion leaders holding a central position in regards to the sustainable use of renewable natural resources for social benefits, competitiveness and well-being in the Nordic and Baltic countries. The forum had 23 participants from different Nordic and Baltic countries in a balanced way. They represented several sectors (e.g. forest, energy, environment, construction, rural development and regional policy) and organisations (e.g. public administration, politics, business, interest groups, R&D and education, media and NGOs). << Back ProgramWelcoming reception 27.8.2007 A welcoming reception hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry was given on the evening of arrival at the historical Majvik Jugend Castle located at the forum site.
Forum 28.8.2007 The forum offered strategic insight to the use of renewable natural resources by internationally known speakers, followed by active input of the participants representing different sectors. The Forum included the following sessions:
Interactive approaches and modern group work methods were used to ensure effective input of the participants, and to compile results and messages to be delivered to ongoing policy and strategy processes. The methods were adopted from the Forest Academy communication concept.
Excursion 29.8.2007 Wood-based energy accounts for 20 % of all primary energy used in Finland. Although most of it is produced as a side stream of pulp and paper production, the utilisation of different forms of forest and wood based fuels is growing rapidly. During the excursion, the whole wood energy chain was demonstrated, beginning from modern procurement methods and logistics to combined heat and power production technology.
Venue Majvik Meeting and Convention Hotel is a unique congress site combining modern facilities, interesting history and beautiful nature with forested landscape (see www.majvik.fi). It is located on the shore of the Baltic Sea, only 25 km from downtown Helsinki, and 25 minutes from the Helsinki-Vantaa airport.
