Forest Academy for Decision-Makers is a course and discussion forum on forest issues, directed at top-level decision-makers throughout the Finnish society.
It aims at strengthening the participants’ abilities to understand and utilize the multiple potentials related to forests in support of societal development. This is done by evaluating the state of the forest sector, and examining alternative paths of development through cross-sectoral dialogue.
The forums are primarily aimed at decision-makers and opinion leaders, who work outside the forest sector, but who have an interest or ability to influence forest issues. In addition, they are participated by persons representing the forest sector.
The Finnish Forest Association customised the Forest Academy communication program in 2005. The reason was the wide interest raised during years 2003-2004 when the concept was used to organise four forums for then new EU Member States. This communication programme was used during 2006-2007 in international forums on the use of natural resources. Latvia was the first foreign country to start implementing the programme. Tanzania and Costa Rica will start implementing it in 2011 (Read more).
