Each Forest Academy forum is participated by app. 30 societal decision-makers and opinion-leaders. One third of the participants represent the forest sector, whereas two thirds represent other sectors of society. The participation of both groups is important because of the need for two-way communication, and for creating over-sectoral contacts. Each forum is participated by different persons.
The participants include leading politicians, top-level administrators and executives, representatives of interest groups, leaders of non-governmental organisations, representatives of sciences and arts, the media, and other influential opinion leaders.
People participate as individuals instead of representatives of organisations, which helps reduce social pressure. This setting is very fruitful for open discussion, because it helps the participants to open up their minds for new ideas, and involve in productive strategic discussion.
